Born in Bhatlapenumarru in Krishna District, A.P. In 1918 he studied intermediate in Noble College, Machilipatnam and B.Sc. And M.Sc. At the Banaras Hindu University and obtained Ph.D. At the New York University in 1948. He stood first throughout his education and received JN Tata Endowment Scholarship. He taught both at BHU and the New York University.
Back in India in 1949, he worked in National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. He joined TISCO at Jamshedpur in 1954 and the Jeypore Sugar Company in 1956 where he set up a ferro manganese plant at Rayagada in Orissa and headed it as Plant Manager till 1970.
He founded Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys Limited together with Sri P. Punnaiah and Sri A.S.Chowdhri in 1972 and nurtured and steered its growth, through expansion and diversification, to an industry leader in ferro alloys and a multi-product, multi-unit company with international reputation for product quality and several awards to its credit. He was honoured with 'Yajamanya Ratna' award by the Govt. Of Andhra Pradesh.
Dr.Subba Rao was a brilliant scientist, a scholar and teacher, and, a highly successful entrepreneur with a passion for excellence. His vision guides the company in all its endeavours.
Products :
Manufacture of ferro silicon in a single furnace at Paloncha in Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, the capacity for manufacture of ferro alloys grew five-fold with the addition of new furnaces at Paloncha as well as setting up of new Ferro Alloy Plants.
