The Administrative Staff College of India [ASCI] is the college for practicing managers. Ever since it was established in 1956 at the initiative of government and the corporate world, ASCI has synthesised managerial theory and practice to equip corporate managers, administrators, entrepreneurs and academicians to effectively respond to the ever-increasing complexity of managerial issues confronting government, industrial enterprises and non-government organisations, rather than end up as victims of outcomes. For over four and a half decades, ASCI?s synergistic blend of management development [training], consultancy and research has set the pace for professionalisation of management in India and the developing world.

India took an early interest in the proposals for creating an Administrative Staff College in Britain, which were coming to fruition in the years 1945-48. In 1947, Shri. S.M Gupta, Deputy Educational Adviser to the Government of India, wrote to Mr. Noel Hall, the then Principal of Henley, referring to the interest of the Government of India in what was being planned at Henley, where the first session was due to start in March 1948. This interest had been stimulated by the creative and perceptive article written by Sir Hector Hetherington, one of the original Governors of Henley for, the Times in 1945. In 1953, a committee of the All India Council for Technical Education recommended that an Administrative Staff College be established in India. This committee was representative of both Government and Industry; its two joint secretaries visited Henley during the summer of 1953 - one for a month, the other for the whole of the Session 20. In 1954, on his way back from a visit to Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Hall paid a brief visit to Delhi, as a guest of the Government of India, and attended meetings of the Planning Committee, and subsequently of the Full Committee at which the decision to go ahead was taken. He also had a private conference with the Minister of Commerce, Shri T.T.Krishnamachari, and with the representatives in Delhi of the Tata and other industrial groups. Faculty :- ASCI has a team of strong interdisciplinary faculty engaged in management development training, research and consultancy activities. They include distinguished academics, award winners and trend setters in their respective specializations. In addition to the full time Faculty, the College also hosts a set of distinguished Guest Faculty, Visiting Professors, and Advisors.
